Lent and Praying the Rosary
With today beginning the Catholic Holy Season of Lent, I’d like to talk about praying the rosary.
The rosary is a prayer to Jesus in company with his Mother.
As Catholics, we understand the special place Mary has in the life of Jesus and our lives as well.
While we don’t actually pray to Mary as we do God, we do ask for her help, or intercession by asking her to pray to God for us.
We can think of it as when a child asks a parent, “Can you please talk to my teacher for me? I need some help.” or “Will you please ask Dad to help me with my project? He knows what to do”.
The repetition of the Hail Mary during the rosary is our opportunity to reflect on and meditate on the life of Jesus and the mysteries of the Church while bringing to mind our needs and the needs of others.
I hope you take the time to pray the rosary this Lenten season and I wish you a blessed season.
